Why You Are Not Successful Yet

Back in 2010 I was playing video games for 8 hours a day. I devoted a third of my day to my Xbox and poured my heart and soul into mastering Call of Duty. By the time I was a freshman in college I was ranked in the top .5% of players in the United States. Whenever I am confronted with a challenge in life, an obstacle, I always think back to my years playing video games. For me, it is an analogy from which I can draw a parallel between setting a goal and doing whatever it takes to get to the finish line. What holds you back from success is never the obstacle itself. It’s how obsessed you are with finding the solution.

I am at a point in my life now, after years of reflecting, where I can tell you I have found a new obsession. I have felt the feeling before. It whispers in my ear the same way it did when I was a kid. It is a challenge asking me not how strong I am, or skilled I am, but how obsessed I am. 

What the majority of people don’t understand about work ethic is that there is no secret. Every single pursuit in life, every aspiration or dream costs the same thing. The cost is obsession. Obsession is what gives you the courage to take incredible leaps of faith, to power through difficult situations, and work 18 hour days.
