Over the course of my 20 year career playing the beautiful game, I have experimented with different methods of trying to expedite my development on the pitch. In a world where less than 1% of footballers will make it as professionals, you have to think and act differently in order to reach an elite caliber of play.
In a wildly growing and vastly competitive market it’s hard to find an edge over our opponents. It’s difficult to differentiate yourself from the ever increasingly number of hard working athletes and business persons alike. How can you get ahead of the pack and stay there?
I’m a big proponent of time management. Effectively managing time is a skill that so many desire but so few have. When you are running 3 businesses, a football channel and pursuing a professional contract, you almost have no choice but to effectively manage your time. Without time management, it would be virtually impossible for me to get anything done.
I hope you never experience what it feels like to work your entire life for something and in a blink of an eye have it seized right in front of you. Very few of you know what it feels like to lose something you have loved since you were a child. Something you went to bed thinking about and woke up playing. Anyone who has ever played the game knows that football is a magical sport. Losing football is like losing a friend; your best friend.
When I was in kindergarten, my grandfather told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to my first football practice at the YMCA when I was 4 years old my coach asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. You would assume I said a professional footballer. Not quite. I told him I wanted to be happy. He told me I didn’t understand the question. I told him he didn’t understand life.
